UPDATE: Candy Spelling

It's official!

The sale of showbiz widda Candy Spelling's steroidal Los Angeles, CA mansion is a done deal. According to a press release issued earlier today the 55,000 square foot mega-mansion in the Holmby Hills 'hood was sold for an astonishing $85,000,000 to 22-year old Formula One racing heiress Petra Eccelstone, just as was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

We're not sure why we heard so much rumor and brouhaha about The Manor being sold to a Indian mega-billionaire Mukesh Ambani but that's what happened.

Mazel Tov Miss Ecclestone! Enjoy rambling and rattling around your gigantic new house.

Any of the children interested in having a look see at the official press release can read it here.

As noted first by the cool kids at Curbed, über-wealthy divorcée Suzanne Saperstein's palatial pile–the 12 bedroom and 15 bathroom Holmby Hills edifice known as Fleur de Lys–came back on to the open market today, the very same day Candy's crib closing was announced to the press. Miz Saperstein, a couture collector of the highest order, opted not drop her previous price and the property still has a $125,000,000 price tag.

Hm. What a rollercoaster ride this has been! I for one am glad it is over (though I never tire reading whatever you write about, Mama)...
I must say after reviewing the re-listing of Fleur de Lys that, though both of these mansions are staggeringly indulgent, I find it so much more tasteful than "The Manor" (even its name belies how blazingly tacky it is...). I wonder how truly pleased Ms Ecclestone could be when you know she didn't get her way...As someone said last time this matter came up, we'll probably see this white elephant back on the open market waaaaay sooner than any of us would like.

Congratulations to Candy Spelling, I admit I never thought it'd sell at all in this recession but I was wrong. I wouldn't mind an extra 85 million dollars going into my bank account!

*PS... Tori Spelling weeps

Congrats Candy!!! You go, girl!

Now I wonder how much $85 million translates to in property taxes? Isn't that around a million smackers per year?!

I'm still stumped as to why Petra's bought this place. She's not known to spend time in LA ... it's all rather strange.

The fact that Ms. Saperstein relisted her home for the same rediculous amount it was previously on the market for, on the same day that Candy sold hers, is testimony that she probably DID blow the deal over having Miss Ecclestone pay her moving bill. Good for you Candy!!

Candy not canny. She took a 56+% haircut on her pile ($150,000,000 to 85 million; I hope my calcs are right). That would suggest Sapperstein might have to reduce her 125 million dollar mansion to something like 70 million. I always like to think of people like this when Tea Party politcos in Washington claim the rich cannot afford to pay any higher taxes. It might deprive them of a mansion or yacht or two.

Even if she had attained her full asking price, this is, has been, and always will be a coyote. Now we will have to see how big money tarts up a coyote. I hope Mama will keep us posted. Does any chile know when the doll sale is happening?

The Ol' Girl stuck to her $150M and got $85M. Usually that strategy never works, but you know if she cut it to $85M should would have gotten $60M. Good for her!

I know Bernie is loaded, but his family's spending seems to outstrip his wealth. Is this going to be the Vanderbilts again, 100 years later?

Add this to the $56 million pound residence she owns and is renovating in London!

Does anyone know if Candy has actually moved out, or is she renting back from Petra until she can pull that together?

And does anyone know who's decorating the penthouse? Calling Martin Lawrence Bullard and Million Dollar Decorators. Now that's a story line. Actually it would be more hilarious if Kathryn Ireland did it, but that will never happen.

They're the best reality television characters ever, in my humble opinion. Just hope it catches on, and can draw good numbers. If so, you know that the New York version can't be far behind.

Congratulations Petra on your dirtbag POS father buying you one of the worst mega mansions ever built in modern history.

I honestly hope you are a decent person and not a pile of human excrement that your father is.

Saperstein's house is way way better than this thing.

Fleur de Lys is a much nicer house, even if saying that makes me disloyal cuz The Manor is 'south of Sunset' down here where the rest of us plebs live not to mention (as I already have) across the street from the local park's rather smelly restrooms.

OMFG. It would take some tack-ass over paid F1 driver (it was F1 wasn't it?) to have bought this monstrosity. Yes, its big - as in BFD. Ugh. Hated it! NEXT...

Any 22 Year-Old that needs to buy a 50,000 Square Foot house without even having a single child is NOT a Happy girl!! She is obviously Miserable in her Spoiled life and gets whatever she wants when she wants it!! Who spends $85,000,000 on a house after just Buying another house for $75,000,000 in London without ever working a Day in her Life?? I am NOT Jealous whatoever and love when people get beautiful things BUT that $85 MILLION could have SAVED 1000's of Starving Children around the World!! Instead some Rich Spoiled Brat buys a 2nd home she will NEVER use because she wants to show off!! Newsflash, the "REAL WORLD" thinks your a sad little girl that spends all her dad's Money!! Hopefully it doesnt run out because you could NEVER handle the real world. All of a Sudden all your "Supposed" friends that love flying on your Private Jet and hanging on your 250 Foot Yacht wont be there anymore!! Wake-up and do something POSITIVE with all your Money. You will be ALOT HAPPIER in the long run!!

Hyacinth honey, we all know you spell your last name BUCKET. Just because you're posting on this side of the pond doesn't make your vine-like attempts to climb the social ladder any less apparent.

And Your Mama, I for one am absolutely thrilled that we can be done with this mess for the next two months or until such a time as that Petrified 22 year old gets sick of her salute to trailer trash on steriods purchase. Thank you for keeping we the chillrens up to date with all this mess!

If Bernie truly is worth $4 Billion then the cost of this "house" amounts to a modest annual interest payment of a mere 2.1%. My guess is he makes more than that on his loot and this property is but a drop in his bucket.

The question is why would a 22yr old girl need a house this large and expensive, and what type of a father would indulge his daughter to this excess?

I don't give a hoot about "starving children around the world" (don't have babies if you can't feed them) but this display is a tad sickening if indeed the property is only for occasional personal use.

LMAO......I had no idea.

I would be willing to bet this is a business investment. Gussy it up a little and rent it out to visiting billionaires for a few years and sell it in a better economy. Maybe even get that 150m if prices get crazy again.

To the children talking about her boyfriend..have you seen her parents? Obviously she was raised to believe beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Hyacinth Bucket said...

RATZ! If it weren't for the cursed information highway, I might've gotten away with it!

lil' gay boy said...

Oh my dear Mrs. Bucket, never ––– at least not as long as Audrey fforbes-Hamilton is keeping an eye out! As she has been know to say, "...how very vulgar..."

Perhaps you should stick to your riparian entertainments?

I googled the boyfriend and thought I mistyped it as James Runt... to each his/her own.

Here is the good news... the taxes she will pay will help our City/County...which is going broke.
Also, she will employ decorators, contractors and will spend a ton of money to furnish the place. Add to that Security, Caretakers, Maids, Butlers, gardeners etc.

Good for the economy. Any bets as to how long she keeps the place?

why is it all these foreigners are able to buy u.s. homes and americans cannot???

Well we don't know what Nic Cage might have done had he not already gone busto with his other purchases. And then there is Jennie Anniston, but she suddenly got infected with the "downsizes" and that put her out of the picture. LOL.

tovangar2 said...

Why, WHY did I google James Stunt? Would that I could take that back. Oh, my eyes, my eyes...

StPaulSnowman said...

Since she was mentioned, I have to say that Audrey Forbes-Hamilton is one of my all time favorites. Every time I revel in her expressions, I am relieved that the British have such disdain for Botox. "To the Manor Born" has enormous staying power and any of the chillun not familiar should give it what Mama calls a "look see"

I can see this being one of these homes that is so horrid the owner never moves in.

MLB MUST lead the interior renovation...it would be a quintessential moment for sure.

I have been waiting to hear who really bought this house. I haven’t read any other comments in your column before posting mine.

I think there is something very wrong in the world when a 22-year-old billionaire’s daughter can buy an $85 million dollar house. She is so young. How can someone this young need a house like this? What has she done in her life to “earn” a house like this? During these times, when it’s being bandied about that a “solution” for our national budget is perhaps having “modest modifications in Social Security entitlements” – which means benefits lowered? Glutinous and shallow Petra should be ashamed of herself. Shame on her and her dad.

anways, congrats to Petra, my fellow Croatian Slavica(her mom) bought her the house and from what i've heard , she also bought them houses in London.

"...now watch Petra tear it down and build something bigger."

Why did the hairs on the back of my neck just stand up?

Anonymous said...

I wonder if the Spelling purchase included some of the furniture? Some of it is too big for a condo, and was especially made for that house, i.e. the dining room set.

The Spelling house sits where Bing Crosby's house sat, which by the way - was a fine house - too bad it was torn down to make way for this mega mcmansion.

Anonymous said...

lil' gay boy,

The hairs on the back of your neck stood up for the same reason mine and others did.
I can completely see her tearing this town to build something else.

I assume like myself you are scared that she is going to build something even worse.

lil' gay boy said...

Scared? Terrified.

StPaulSnowman said...

OK then, it is time for the chillun' to nominate what house could possibly be worse than this. No fair suggesting a faux Tuscan addition off the back with an owner degreasing facility.....
